From August 16 to 19, the 5th National College Teachers' Teaching Innovation Competition was held at Beijing Institute of Technology. This competition, guided by the Ministry of Education’s Department of Higher Education and organized by the China Association of Higher Education, saw impressive results from Guizhou University. Our teachers and teams won 2 first-place awards, 2 second-place awards, and 3 third-place awards, setting a new record for the university and marking a historic achievement!

In the fierce competition across various categories, Guizhou University teachers stood out for their strong teaching skills and remarkable innovation. Key winners included:
Yang Da from the College of Public Administration and ASEAN Studies Institute, who won a first-place award in the Senior Group for New Liberal Arts.
Wu Yunkai from the College of Big Data and Information Engineering, who won a first-place award in the Junior and Below Group for New Engineering.
Yu Yafang and Wang Sicheng from the College of Architecture and Urban Planning, who won second-place awards in the Senior Group for Curriculum Ideology and the Associate Senior Group for New Liberal Arts, respectively.
Wu Qixin from the Key Laboratory of Karst Geological Resources and Environment, Ministry of Education, who won a third-place award in the Senior Group for New Engineering.
Chen Yuling from the National Key Laboratory of Public Big Data (jointly established by the Ministry and provincial departments), who won a third-place award in the Industry-Education Integration Group for Ministry and Provincially Joint Universities.
Jiang Lanxiang from the College of Mathematics and Statistics, who won a third-place award in the Associate Senior Group for Basic Courses.

This year’s competition included 32 regional divisions across China, covering 14 different academic fields. A total of 127,064 teachers from 1,308 universities participated in the campus-level competition. After intense selection, 34,160 teachers advanced to the provincial competitions, and 2,253 teachers (including team teachers) from 588 courses reached the national finals. The competition ultimately awarded 88 first-place prizes, 205 second-place prizes, and 295 third-place prizes.

Guizhou University’s leadership placed great importance on this competition. Before the event, Party Secretary Yang Wei and President Academician Song Baoan led a special mobilization to support our teachers. During the competition, Party Secretary Yang Wei and Vice President Chen Yanbo visited the competition site to offer guidance. A delegation, including the coaching team and young teacher representatives, also traveled to Beijing to cheer on the competitors. The Office of Academic Affairs and the Teacher Work Office worked closely together to ensure smooth coordination and support throughout the event.

The outstanding results not only highlight Guizhou University’s teaching excellence and innovation but also demonstrate the significant strides we’ve made in educational reform and talent development. Moving forward, the university will continue to use competitions to drive teaching and reform, strengthen teaching practices, promote course development, and integrate academic disciplines. Our goal is to contribute even more to training high-quality talents for the new era and to supporting China’s education system in its quest for global excellence.
