On August 11, Guizhou University hosted the inaugural meeting and first academic committee session of the Guizhou Provincial Key Laboratory of Agricultural Biosafety. Chaired by Ran Longbiao, Secretary of the CPC Committee of the College of Agriculture, the event gathered leading experts including Zhang Keqin, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Wang Qiao, Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand; Wan Fanghao, Chief Scientist at CAAS; and Chen Xuexin, Vice President of the Chinese Entomological Society. Officials from provincial departments of science, technology, and agriculture also attended the event.

The academic committee is chaired by Zhang Keqin, with Wan Fanghao, Wang Qiao, Chen Xuexin, Wang Jinjun, and Chen Xiangsheng serving as deputy chairs. The 21-member committee includes scholars from institutions across China. The management committee is led by Chen Xiangsheng, with Li Can as executive director.

The lab’s establishment marks a significant step in strengthening agricultural biosafety in Guizhou. It will focus on core challenges in the field through basic and applied research, technological innovation, and collaboration with domestic and international institutions.

By introducing advanced expertise and resources, the lab aims to enhance local research capacity and develop practical solutions for agricultural biosafety.
