On August 9, the 5th International Conference on Mountain Agriculture and Green Plant Protection opened in Huaxi District, Guiyang. The five-day event, themed “Plant Health, Green Plant Protection, and High-Quality Development,” aims to promote sustainable development of mountain agriculture and support China’s rural revitalization strategy.

Present at the opening ceremony were participants from over 20 countries, including leading scholars and experts such as Wang Qiao, Fellow of the Royal Academy of New Zealand and Professor at Guizhou University; Chen Wanquan, Deputy Director of the Institute of Plant Protection, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS); Chen Xuexin, Professor at Zhejiang University; Zheng Chuanlin, Researcher at CAAS and Secretary-General of the Chinese Society of Plant Protection; and Zhang Dalin, Vice President of Guizhou University. The opening ceremony was chaired by Zang Liansheng, Deputy Director of Center for Research and Development of Fine Chemicals at GZU.
In his remarks, GZU Vice President Zhang Dalin extended his warm welcome to the participants and outlined Guizhou University’s recent progress in promoting regional and international cooperation. He noted the university’s engagement in joint research initiatives and talent training programs for Belt and Road countries. As an active participant in the China–ASEAN Education Cooperation Week, Guizhou University will continue to expand academic exchanges, promote cultural dialogue, strengthen joint programs, host high-level forums, and build research platforms to address shared challenges, said Zhang.

The conference features keynote lectures, the founding meeting of the International Plant Protection Cooperation Organization (IPPCO), the Young Scholars Forum of the Chinese Society of Plant Protection, the launch of the China–Sri Lanka Summer School on Green Tea Pest Management under the Belt and Road Initiative, and a sub-forum on Green Pesticides and Plant Protection. These sessions facilitate the exchange of innovative theories, technologies, and methods for green plant protection against diseases, pests, and weeds in mountain crops.

The event is hosted by Guizhou University and organized by the State Key Laboratory of Green Pesticide, with support from Department of Science and Technology of Guizhou Province, Department of Education of Guizhou Province, Foreign Affairs Office of Guizhou Province, Guizhou Association for Science and Technology, the Youth Working Committee of the Chinese Society of Plant Protection, and the Biological Control Committee of the Entomological Society of China and Guizhou Zhuohao Agricultural Science and Technology Co., Ltd.
