GZU Launches 2025 Colorful Guizhou Intangible Cultural Heritage Traditional Craft Workshop

On July 15, the 2025 Colorful Guizhou Intangible Cultural Heritage Traditional Craft Workshop opened at the College of Music, Guizhou University (GZU), hosting faculty and students from Chinese Culture University in Taiwan, China. The opening ceremony was presided over by Mu Weiping, Dean of the College of Music at GZU.

Hong Yun, Director of the Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Affairs Office at Guizhou University, welcomed the visiting faculty and students from Taiwan and reaffirmed GZU’s commitment to promoting youth exchanges across the Strait and advancing peaceful development. She noted that the workshop seeks to preserve intangible cultural heritage, build bridges through music, and explore new models of collaboration. She also expressed hope that participants from both sides would draw on music and youthful creativity to jointly carry forward cultural heritage.

Zhang Hua, Director of the Exchange Division of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the Guizhou Provincial People’s Government, said the event builds bridges through music and cultural heritage, enabling participants to experience the beauty of Guizhou’s landscapes and music, drawing on its ethnic traditions and Yangming philosophy. He noted the workshop’s role in fostering academic collaboration under inter-university agreements and supporting discipline development and field study, and encouraged participants to deepen cross-strait cultural understanding and appreciation through music.

Wang Lelun, Director of the Department of Chinese Music at Chinese Culture University, emphasized the value of field study in Guizhou for broadening students’ knowledge beyond textbooks and supporting both professional development and cultural transmission. He added that despite geographic differences, the two sides of the Strait share deep cultural roots and can learn from each other in traditional and ancient music.

Dong Yanbin, a student representative from Chinese Culture University, said the program has broadened his horizons and perspectives. He looked forward to the ten-day exchange as an opportunity to bring people closer through music and to explore Guizhou’s cultural and natural beauty.
