Guizhou University Holds 2025 Commencement and Degree Conferral Ceremony

On June 27, the 2025 Commencement and Degree Conferral Ceremony of Guizhou University was held at the East Campus Stadium. In attendance were university leaders Yang Wei, Song Bao’an, Zhang Jie, Tang Benwen, Zhang Dalin, Chen Xiangsheng, Wang Jinrong, Wang Xu, Chen Yanbo, and Pan Yu, as well as Ma Kejianacademician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. The ceremony was presided over by Zhang Jie, Deputy Party Secretary of GZU.

The ceremony commenced with the solemn national anthem.

Song Bao’an, President of Guizhou University (GZU) and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), delivered a heartfelt speech entitled Pursuing Excellence in the Ordinary, Blossoming Youth Through Practical Action.In his speech, he congratulated the graduates on the successful completion of their studies, reviewed the university’s achievements, and put forward three hopes for the graduates: 1. Anchor knowledge in practice and act with integrity and innovation, striving to become pioneers who rise to challenges. Against the backdrop of the technological revolution, he urged the graduates to engage in grassroots work and contribute to rural revitalization; 2. Sustain ambition and dare to break new ground, aiming to become trailblazers who take the lead in driving progress. He encouraged them to play a pioneering role in technological innovation and boost the momentum of youth-led development; 3. Deepen patriotism and shoulder responsibilities through action, committing to become strivers who apply their efforts to real-world needs. He emphasized the importance of translating patriotism into concrete actions, addressing practical challenges, and writing a dedicated chapter in ecological protection.President Song also highlighted that "dedication, refinement, and pursuit of excellence" are the core spirits of GZU students, and he extended his best wishes for their bright future.

On behalf of the faculty of Guizhou University (GZU), Professor Feng Yixiong delivered an encouraging speech to the graduates. He urged them to embrace a pioneering spirit, drawing a parallel to the innovative spirit embodied by Guizhou’s iconic bridges. Amid the new era of industrial upgrading, he also emphasized the importance of developing interdisciplinary thinking and pursuing excellence with a craftsman’s dedication.In his well-wishes for the graduates, Professor Feng compared their future lives to titanium alloy—urging them to build resilient life paths and carve out their own "perfect journeys" with unwavering strength.

This “gate” carries dual symbolism: it not only marks the starting point of the graduates’ academic journey at GZU but also embodies the university’s aspirations for them. Serving as a gateway to boundless possibilities, it is meant to inspire the graduates to open doors to global opportunities, fulfilling careers, and personal happiness—while encouraging them to contribute their efforts to the enhancement of national technological strength and the realization of national rejuvenation.

Zhang Cheng, representative of GZU alumni, Ren Yinyin, representative of parents, Huang Xiaoyu (postgraduate), representative of outstanding graduate, Yang Hongyan (undergraduate), and Zhen Bao (international student)shared their growth stories and insights at the ceremony.In their sharing, they encouraged the graduating class to apply their academic knowledge to social practice, face challenges with courage, and take on the responsibilities of young people in the new era.

A grassroots employment deployment ceremony followed immediately after. During the ceremony, university leaders and distinguished guests presented the graduates with sashes—symbols of honor and responsibility—and encouraged them to dedicate themselves to grassroots development.Subsequently, Yang Wei, Party Secretary of Guizhou University (GZU), issued appointment letters to the class liaison representatives for alumni work. She expressed her hope that these representatives would serve as a bridge connecting GZU alumni with their alma mater.

The ceremony drew to a close with a performance by the Choir of College of Music, who sang The Dazzling Adventurer.Shortly after, Wang Jinrong—Vice President of GZU and Vice Chair of the GZU Academic Degree Committee—presided over the degree conferral session. During the session, university leaders turned the tassels on graduates’ caps, awarded them their degrees, and took group photos with the graduates to mark the occasion.
